We often scour cricketers and Bollywood stars to look for a stable source of inspiration. Or else, we seek inspiration in unprivileged but unordinary people who have defied all odds to win their personal race.
Sometimes, I feel how clandestinely strange it is that we often overlook figures who are such an integral part of our lives but are so unassumingly rooted and calm that they are no less inspiring. They, despite their apparent ordinariness, stand tall and unfazed even in situations where we tend to collapse into rubles of melancholy for an upsetting incident that has occurred in our lives.
It can be enthralling to just be by the side of such people during their own lean phases, not for rendering them with a comforting arm but to simply witness the magnitude of their calmness and to make this beguiling discovery that they need no arm at all.
At points where we may find it impossible to maintain a calm composure, they absorb their woes and disappointments into their system effortlessly. Even if the stuff keeps striking somewhere in their life, they are audacious enough to feign happiness and manage to radiate joy in a monk-like earnestness.
I too have such figure in my life and here I am going to introduce him to you all. VINOD VATS - A man of great modesty and humble backcloth. I can easily recall his journey from that son-of-a-farmer to one of the most sought-after teachers/mentors in my region. Barely in his mid-thirties, he has the tranquility that is fast becoming a rarity in today’s urban-bred youth.
We in our breakneck-paced life have incorporated the habit (perhaps unconsciously) of yelling and frowning at almost every animate and inanimate thing, right from a slowed down internet connection to our aging parents who don’t know what LOL is.
But this guy, as I earlier said, despite a lot of odd circumstances remains unruffled and smooth. And that’s what makes him a rare gem. His seeming ordinariness glitters like a crown amid black fragmented rubles. Of course, he lives a very fruitful life and now enjoys a professional repute worth boasting of, but it is his ebullient and high-spirited nature that will win you over just in a few minutes spent in his company.
No, he is neither a muscle-flaunting model nor super-rich entrepreneur. He is just a well-fixed middle-class teacher. But his story, no matter how insignificant and cliché it may sound, deserves to be chronicled. No, he never makes it to headlines and has not done any ‘miracle’ to warrant a place in any coveted list. But to those who are lucky enough to share his acquaintance, he serves as a scholar who inspires; sometimes too saliently to be acknowledged.
I learned a lot from his personality, especially on how to handle an odd time. Whenever I face a tough situation in my life, I think of him and try to find the solution in his very manner. Getting my call responded by an inner voice, I act accordingly.
Why I am writing this is because such people often exist in daily lives of ours. All you need is to find these gems in your own cellar, and don’t really have to voyage to some far-away treasure trove.
