Red Fort

Almost every
tourist arriving in Delhi pays homage to this mammoth structure dating back to
the 16th century. Located in Old Delhi (Chandni Chauk being the nearest Metro
Station), Red Fort attracts tourists for its stunning architectural beauty and
grand historical significance. Inside the fort are many small monuments, neatly-manicured
gardens and a museum that showcases many artefacts, paintings and weapons
preserved from the eras gone by. The fort remains closed on Monday; so plan
your visit accordingly.
Jama
Masjid
Just a
walking distance from the Red Fort, Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India
and is an important pilgrimage site for Muslims from across the globe. The
mosque was also built by Shahjahan, a mughal emperor, and has three massive
gates, four angle towers and two minarets. It is majorly built of red sandstone
and white marble. Surrounding the mosque is the famous Mina Bazaar, where
tourists can fill their bags with unique souvenirs.
The
National Museum
Qutub Minar
Qutub Minar
is a UNESCO heritage site; build during 11th-12th century. A tower that stands
73 meters tall looks stunning with its majestic height as well as unique
architecture design. The five story tower has a diameter of 50ft at the base
and 8ft at the top. There are stairs inside the tower to reach on the top.
However, visitors are not allowed to go up due to security reasons. A 7ft high
pillar in the courtyard of the mosque complex is also a tourist attraction.
