Andaman Trip – Really an Audacious Sojourn!!!

Even though I’m a real Indian macrocosm fanatic, the one destination I have never been to is ‘Andaman Islands’, in spite of the fact that I’ve planned many times. But a month ago, I, with two of my friends, flocked to this estimable natural soil, and very soon after wandering around its gleaming shorelines, virgin forests and gorgeous tracts, I realized how much I missed exploring natural bounties being in so close to that.

In recent years, Andaman has emerged as one of the hottest spots for travelers, especially those with a sense of nature and adventure. A large group of nearly 600 small islands, this archipelago is located in the Bay of Bengal. Politically it has been a part of India, though Myanmar and Thailand are close to it more than the Indian mainland. The Island was badly hit by Ocean earthquake and Tsunami of 2004, and was almost destructed at its shores. However, most of the tourist attractions, excepting the Little India and Mahatma Gandhi National Park, are operating normally again.

Upon arrival, tourists are welcomed by a typical coastal beauty coupled with inviting modern developments of Port Blair – the laid-back capital of Andaman and the sole entry/exit point. However, gorgeous Arial views of the island even before you land are something like you’ve been dreaming with your open eyes. We spent two days in Port Blair exploring its natural gems, enjoying fresh seafood and seeing its historical landmarks.  Visiting the Cellular Jail or ‘Kala Pani’, once the most dreadful name among Indians, was truly a remarkable experience.

We took a road trip to the far northern island chain, and explored two pristine, non-polluted and beautiful islands nearby: Smith and Ross Island. This region is pretty brainy and a must-visit if you love peace, tranquility and decent seaside settings with the lovely climate. For great snorkeling, scuba-diving and other fun-filled water activities, you can move ahead to Havelock Island, which is the most visited among the islands of Andaman. Neil, Baratang and Little Andaman are also in proximity, and worth exploring during an Andaman tour.

If you love camping, you will surely love Andaman. It’s perhaps the best place in/around India, as I know, for camping and associated activities like bird watching, trailing etc. Amazing varieties of flora & fauna also leave the visitors stunned here. Also, don’t miss to explore interesting tribe cultures while being on Andaman holiday trip.

The main language spoken here are Bengali, Tamil and Telugu. Alongside, you will meet the ones speaking and understanding Hindi and English well, especially those involved in the tourism field, on the island. Taxis and Auto-rickshaws are available to get around. Apart from that, you can hire scooters and motorcycles as well.
